hi would i need a wire trace for dropshot fishing..

hi i have been fishing for many years but i have never done any drop shotting. so i have bought a set up for drop shotting,  was thinking would i need a wire trace on even tho i am targeting the perch. many thanks..

Perch will not be able to bite through your line so you shouldn't need a wire trace, however, if the water you are fishing also contains pike, you will need a wire trace just in case you hook into one.

Pike are often attracted by the same lures used for perch.
